Responsible Business

Acting responsibly

At AXA, being a responsible business in a transforming world means integrating environmental, social and ethical challenges across our entire value chain – whether in insuring, investing, innovating or supporting our customers and partners.

Responsible insurance

We integrate sustainability into our products, services and customer relationships.

  • Sustainable products: solutions that aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support a circular economy, and limit biodiversity loss and pollution, while addressing customers living on modest incomes.
  • Prevention and resilience: climate risk advisory services and road safety programmes.
  • Customer engagement: fair and professional treatment of customers, transparent information, quality advice and active listening, tools designed to improve the customer experience.

Responsible investment

AXA integrates Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors into its investment processes and its practices as a shareholder.
In this context, the Responsible Investment Committee was established in 2010 to define, steer, implement and monitor AXA's responsible investment (RI) strategy. The Group has notably implemented a comprehensive Responsible Investment policy that applies to AXA’s entire General Account, covering over €450 billion in assets. This policy defines our positioning and our strategic pillars for responsible investment, providing a structural framework for the development of investment guidelines specific to sectors facing particularly sensitive environmental or ethical challenges, for which AXA has established dedicated policies.
As part of its investment initiatives, AXA is a member of the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), a major international initiative aimed at promoting responsible investment among investors and asset managers.

Responsible Company

Governance and ethical management

Our responsibility is at the heart of our strategy and governance, overseen by our highest governing bodies to guarantee practices of integrity, transparency and accountability. This includes the responsible management of ESG risks, business ethics and the protection of human rights across all our activities.

Wellbeing, inclusion and development

We also ensure the wellbeing of our employees by fostering a safe, inclusive and stimulating work environment based on diversity, equal opportunity, flexibility and team cohesion, and facilitating social dialogue as well as employee health, safety and wellbeing. We also support the empowerment of women, both as customers and employees, notably through our Women in Insurance initiative, which aims to promote the role of women in the insurance sector.

Procurement and carbon footprint reduction

We integrate sustainable procurement by applying a sustainability policy with ESG criteria in our tenders and requiring responsibility clauses in our supplier contracts. We assess suppliers’ ESG performance via EcoVadis and deploy best practices to reduce our carbon footprint, such as local purchasing, decarbonation of car fleetand low-carbon energy.

Privacy, security and responsible use of AI

At AXA, we use Artificial Intelligence in a responsible, ethical and human-centric manner, while bolstering our security against cyber risks via regular audits, a 24/7 monitoring centre and employee training. We protect personal data in accordance with our Binding Corporate Rules (BCR), guaranteeing confidentiality and maintaining transparent dialogue to strengthen trust.

Tax transparency and compliance

We adhere to local and international tax regulations, in a responsible and transparent approach. We contribute to local economies by meeting our tax obligations and avoiding non-cooperative jurisdictions. Our financial products are designed to comply with anti-tax-optimisation and anti-money-laundering standards, supporting sustainable and responsible growth.

Philanthropy and investments for transition

In the face of the great challenges of our time, we are reinventing our philanthropy by investing in projects focused on transition, culture, science and solidarity through the AXA Foundation for Human Progress, to help build a more resilient and inclusive future.

Strategic analysis for a sustainable future

To support our responsible strategy and the transition towards a sustainable future, we analyse global markets, macroeconomic trends and sustainability related challenges. We focus on social, environmental and resilience challenges, identifying long-term trends and collaborating with customers and the academic community to develop an integrated, science-based vision.

Transparency and stakeholder dialogue

Transparency and dialogue are central to our approach: AXA communicates responsibly, including through its Public Affairs Charter, and maintains constructive and ongoing dialogue with its stakeholders, including public authorities, professional bodies and civil society.

Partnerships and collective solutions for sustainability

We also collaborate with international organisations and NGOs to develop collective sustainability solutions (United NationsGlobal Compact, United Nations Principles for Sustainable Insurance (UN PSI), United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI), Kyoto, European Road Safety Charter, Act4Nature).
