The French National Monuments Center (CMN) has decided to carry out work to restore and refurbish the Arc de Triomphe, which is known around the world and welcomes more than 1.6 million visitors each year.
These operations will focus on:
- the restoration of the Arc de Triomphe’s roof (acroterion),
- the historic stairs used by visitors to access the monument’s interior,
- the structure’s four pillars,
- the esplanade and chains.
The project will start up in December 2021 and run through to the second quarter of 2023. This work will be overseen by François Chatillon, chief architect for historic monuments, with the CMN as the project manager.
