From 26,907 down to 4: Who will be our next AXA adventurer?

Nearly 27,000 students and graduates played the Great Global Adventure again this year. Presenting a mammoth task to our judges – how do you get from 27,000 to 4 and how do you choose the final winner?

We asked our judges what they were searching for in choosing the regional finalists.

Hannah West

Global Head of Employer Brand at AXA

We looked for a sense of adventure, curiosity and for candidates to be open to new experiences, cultures and ways of thinking. It was really important too that they understood that as the adventurer they would be a global ambassador for AXA.

With three rounds of interviews, including a live presentation, the judges faced a challenging decision; to choose just four finalists, the winners in each of their regions (the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, Africa and the Middle East).
After careful consideration, we’d like to say massive congratulations to Alice, Chelsie, Josephine and Don! Here’s a bit more about our talented winners:

In the Americas

Alice Fenelly was born in California but raised in Colorado and has dual nationalities (Irish and American). After getting her Business degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in December, she was recruited as a Marketing Coordinator for Burberry on a temporary contract in the UK. After she finishes her contract in a month, she’ll be heading back to the Rocky Mountains and is looking forward to adding hiking back into her daily routine.

In Asia Pacific

Chelsie Kumar was born in Australia but has Scottish and Indian parents. She’s recently moved back to her home city of Brisbane after a 12-month study exchange in London. She’s in her penultimate year of a Bachelor of Law (Honours)/Bachelor of Media and Communications degree. At the moment she’s working full time in the legal industry, and she aspires to work overseas once she’s graduated.

In Europe

Josephine Liang lives in London in the UK but originally hails from Hong Kong. She’s a 2016 Fellow of Year Here; a postgraduate course testing and building creative solutions to social issues. Right now, she’s in the process of setting up her social enterprise ‘I'mperfect’ which makes delicious and ethical soups and smoothies from surplus food, by working directly with farmers and whole-sale traders.

And in Africa and the Middle East

Don Joe Martin originally comes from Kerala in India. For the past 18 years he’s lived in the United Arab Emirates and he’s a 4th year student of Electronics and Communication B.E. (Hons).

Of course, the Great Global Adventure doesn’t end here. Only one of these talented participants will be crowned the global winner, winning the journey of a lifetime including work and voluntary experiences. So who will it be?
