AXA Future Risks Report 2020

The emerging risks landscape reshaped (& exacerbated) by Covid-19

The COVID-19 crisis provides a concrete illustration of the growing connectivity of risks, which AXA presented as one of the main findings of last year’s report. Risks require prevention and protection to be considered through a global, interdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder approach. That’s why, for the seventh consecutive year, AXA has conducted its annual survey of emerging risks. This edition is very special. As this report was being written, more than 33 million people worldwide* had been infected and more than one million had died as a result of COVID-19.

The report finds that the main risks in the next five to ten years will relate to pandemics and infectious diseases, climate change and cyber risks.

33%

46%
of North America based experts

51%
of experts

For the 2020 edition, more than 2,700 risk experts from over 54 countries contributed to the survey. Constantly striving to take the study further, AXA has worked with the research specialist Ipsos to better understand experts' perception and, for the first time, monitored perception from the general public by questioning close to 20,000 people. AXA has also continued its partnership with Eurasia Group for their unique take on geopolitical themes.
