Now, the Alliance for Youth has created a Readiness for Work toolkit designed to be used in collaboration with universities and further education institutions, and students. The toolkit provides insights and practical help to young people on where to search for a job, how best to present themselves and how to increase their employability.
On the 6th of November, the Alliance for Youth partners headed over the channel to launch the toolkit in the UK, welcoming over 100 attendees to the University of Surrey, including graduates, students, apprentices and interns. The day included presentations, discussions, networking and ‘speed-readiness’ sessions, offering young people the chance to learn from business leaders and experts.
Head of Talent & Performance for AXA Group, Angela Buren, took part in sessions aimed at encouraging students to think about how they present themselves. We asked her how she feels the toolkit will benefit both young people and AXA:
“The Readiness for Work Toolkit will help better set up recent graduates and youth for success, while giving AXA professionals the opportunity to give back to the community and interact directly with potential future employees and key universities. Although the challenges of youth employability may be different throughout the world, the toolkit remains relevant and is surely a good match to the energy of the millennial generation, which has no boundaries!”
In the coming months, Business and HR Leaders from Alliance4YOUth member organisations will deliver the toolkit in at least 12 languages across Europe.
Megan Smith, HR Transformation Consultant at AXA UK, offers this advice to students: “Take the opportunity to attend a ‘Readiness for Work’ event when your university, schools or colleagues run them! There is such a significant advantage to being involved in these sessions and I think anyone who has the opportunity to participate should.”
