Primary mission

The Lead Designer drives and coordinates the design effort at the Data Innovation Lab, but also spreads and promotes it through the instances of the AXA group. He/She leads the team of designers and is responsible for ensuring the right design choices, tools and methodologies that leads products to innovation success.

Core activities

1. Contribute to build a design-driven culture

The Lead Designer works towards the design transformation of the Data Innovation Lab and its stakeholders or partners. He/She is involved in the early phases of projects and participates to different governance instances and in order to infuse a design-driven culture. He/She:

  • Drives to preliminary workshops with stakeholders and contributes to opportunity discoveries, along with the Customer Engagement team and the Product Owners.
  • Proactively contributes to the roadmap of the Business Lines of the group by providing insights and design directions, along with the Product Owners.
  • Participates to the different streams or task forces of the group in order to promote user-centered methods.
2. Coordinate the design practice

The Lead Designer manages the designers contributing to the projects of the Business Products team, including internal designers and external contractors. He/She defines the design methods, techniques and tools to be adopted by the teams and works towards the creation a common language that fosters collaboration and innovation. He/She:

  • Manages the internal and external design workforces;
  • Evaluates the workload and distributes it among the design staff;
  • Evaluates, defines and promotes the right methods and techniques required for the design of compelling data visualizations, user interfaces and human-computer interactions.

3. Contribute to the strategy of products

Working with Product Owners and Project Managers, the Lead Designer is responsible for ensuring that the envisioned products meet the business requirements. This includes gathering specific information and identifying end-users’ problems and needs. This requires good communication skills with stakeholders and an understanding of design and technical issues that a cross-functional team must address in the design process. He/She:

  • Implements and develops methodologies to link usage to technologies and business needs;
  • Participates to co-creation and reviews sessions organized by the Deployment teams in order to capture issues and needs from a user-centered perspective;
Shares ideas and concepts to ensure consistency throughout projects and consolidate the user experience strategy of the Business Products team.

Technical and professional skills
  • Excellent expertise in designing user experiences:
    • Good understanding of the consumer market, technology trends and new uses;
    • Good knowledge of methods and tools employed to model a user experience;
    • Experience with usability principles and testing methods.
  • Cutting-edge user interface design and interaction design skills:
    • Very familiar with Web and mobile user interface guidelines;
    • Great sense of visual design and art direction skills;
    • Ability to design and implement intermediary objects (functional, interaction or visual mockups);
  • English - Fluent in speaking and writing
Soft skills
  • Autonomy, curiosity and innovation capability;
  • Not afraid of unclear and ambiguous situations with a need to invent the path for success;
  • Good relational capabilities necessary to contribute to complex projects involving many persons and skills;
  • Talent for communication (written and oral) and team working;
  • Leadership capability for mentoring and coaching designers and contractors.
  • 5 to 8 years of professional experience as a designer in a research center, in a university laboratory, an innovation design agency or in an innovating company. He/She demonstrated in his/her previous professional experience a talent for running a design activity leading to innovation, scientific and technology finding;
  • Experience in user experience design, interaction design, user interface design and usability;
  • Experience in working in an international environment;
  • A successful introduction of design in a Research and Development team contributing to the success of the organization;
  • Several successfully implemented products or applications.
