This exciting role is newly created to build reserve and capital expertise in the Risk Management department.  Besides reviewing assumption, reserve and capital within the company, the individual will lead the insurance risk part of the Economic Capital framework and participate in industry-leading (Big Data) projects such as: GLM mortality modeling, Policyholder behavior modeling, Agent behavior modeling, Accelerated Underwriting.

The individual will need strong technical skills and work closely with Finance, BU, IT and Service Centers. The position is highly visible and has access to C-level executives.  It is part of a small and dynamic RM team overseeing strategy, distribution, product development, inforce initiative, assumptions, reserve, capital, underwriting, and reinsurance. There are weekly and monthly meetings designed to foster cross-learning and collaboration.

 The main responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  1. Provide insightful review on assumption, reserve and capital changes. Formalize the RM 2nd opinion prior to the committee meeting and communicate to key stakeholders (CRO, Chief Actuary etc.) to effectively influence the final decision
  2. Develop and support the life economic capital framework, including the creation of local calibrations, maintenance & enhancement of technical documentation, completion of back-testing & sensitivity-testing,
  3. Conduct review on the projected reserve & capital in the annual planning and highlight any issues to senior mgmt.
  4. Support audits & reviews by the parent company AXA Group, PWC, Internal Audit, etc. and remediate issues & action plan
  5. Lead/support transversal & strategic projects as needed (i.e. Overall Company Risk Dashboard)

 

  • Undergraduate degree and FSA (or equivalent)
  • 4 – 7 years of relevant Actuarial and/or Risk Management experience, hedging or assumption setting experience plus
  • Solid understanding of statutory reserve and capital, GAAP/IFRS experience plus
  • Strong analytical and communication skills: think creatively, express thoughts clearly, work effectively
  • Strong technical skills in Excel, VBA, R and Java
  • Flexibility to adapt to dynamic projects; must be a self-starter with exemplary work ethic and strong accountability
