The award-winning company to work for, AXA Health, is looking for a Telephone Counsellor to join our team of professionals who are dedicated to helping meet the growing demand for mental health support through our Employee Assistance Programmes and Private Medical Healthcare on a part-time 12 month contract (3 – 4 shifts per week) working from home. To provide our clients the much-needed care they need, our helpline is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your shift pattern will remain the same, so you can plan around your hours. Shifts will include some evenings and/or weekends and typically start at 8am, noon or 3pm or 11pm for overnight shifts and usually last 7.5 hours.

Being a Telephone Counsellor is highly rewarding - you’ll have the unique opportunity to apply your therapy knowledge and compassion to give telephone counselling and support. Client depending, you may be able to refer therapy through either an Employee Assistance Programme contract paid for by their employer, or through their corporate Private Medical Insurance policy.

You’ll have the opportunity to assess customers presenting with a vast array of mild, moderate and severe clinical needs; from stress, anxiety and depression through to attachment difficulties, substance abuse, trauma and personality disorders. You may also help provide guidance to managers who are experiencing distress around their role.

Reporting to the Clinical Services Team Leader, your responsibilities will include:

  • Completing assessments to decide what is clinically appropriate and available to the client and making referral recommendations
  • Delivering expert clinical support and therapeutic interventions to our corporate clients in order to support the health and wellbeing of their employees
  • Supporting employees of contracted businesses to provide mental health care, mostly by telephone
  • Carrying out therapy assessments, managing risk and providing one-off support calls

Essential:

  • Counselling qualification (degree or post grad dip)
  • Minimum of level 4 qualification a Diploma course in England and PG Dip in Scotland
  • Registered with BACP/BABCP or equivalent
  • A minimum of 350 hours Counselling experience - post qualification

Desirable:

  • Previous EAP experience
  • Telephone experience would be a huge advantage
  • Previous assessment experience


(Please note, Psycho-Drama/Art therapy qualifications are not appropriate on their own but can be suitable if in addition to the above essential criteria)

As government restrictions ease you need to be able to attend initial induction and any subsequent training/CPD/meetings in either our Glasgow or Eastbourne office.
