The AXA Research Fund was created in 2007 to support scientific research that contributes to societal progress and help address some of the most important issues facing our planet. With a total commitment of EUR 179 million to date, the Fund has already supported 563 projects led by leading researchers of 58 nationalities, in 35 countries. The AXA Research Fund helps scientists share their knowledge with the public and decision makers, to actively engage people in transformative actions to live a better life today and tomorrow.
 

Main Activities:

 

Within our team of 7, our Research Business Partners are responsible for identifying, managing and promoting scientifically innovative projects in their specific field (Health, Environment, Socio-Economics and, Data and Tech), in line with AXA’s business priorities. They are also single points of contact for a determined region or set of countries.
 
Business Partners are the link between AXA and the academic world and are the point of contact of a network of topic specialists and of our research candidates before and after they are funded by the organization. They are responsible for preparing and presenting identified research projects applications to our independent Scientific Board, they manage funded research projects and their outcomes, develop and maintain the relationship with the Researcher and their institution and seek, propose and implement leverage opportunities (in communications or through expertise sharing) for the benefit of AXA and Society at large.
 
Business partners are also in charge of developing partnerships between our operating companies and our researchers by detecting and matching the best academic and technical expertise to respond to our needs for academic knowledge. They are entrusted with aligning our strategic philanthropy efforts with the Group’s main areas of presence (geographically) and of field expertise (Environmental, Health, Socio- Economic and Data/Technological risks).
 
 
Detailed responsibilities include:
 
Academic Relationship Building & Subject Expertise
  • Manage project applications, from eligibility and relevance of the proposal to the presentation to the Scientific Board; Provide support to candidates during the application process and qualified feedback after selection.
  • Organize Calls for Projects on our Fellowship Program (Post-Doctoral) on a specified topic defined with AXA stakeholders;
  • Monitor and follow our portfolio of researchers to ensure proper roll out of funded projects;
  • Act as a thought leader and ensure development of subject expertise in the Climate and Environment field within the organization.
  • Ensure communication and knowledge sharing on field of expertise and projects through conferences, publications and remote sharing of information. This involves building and developing a network of experts within and outside the company.
  • Manage the relationship with academic and internal stakeholders (institutions and scientists, AXA experts and business leaders) to strengthen the link between our researchers and AXA’s strategic topics;
  • Present projects to the Scientific Board and support the organization of the latter.
Business relevance/ operating company/country responsibility
  • For the specified geographical responsibility, ensure relationship at all relevant levels within AXA entities by building and developing a network of internal ambassadors. Develop a strong relationship between our entities and academia through alignment of priorities and, in particular, the development of Joint Research Ventures, sharing of best practices and of the potential from past and present research within the business, developing employer brand and communication opportunities, and other partnerships.
  • Develop targeted actions in entities to promote partnerships with scientists and develop knowledge in areas particularly relevant to our businesses, in particular:
    • Matchmaking Conferences: events gathering scientific and AXA experts around a topic of mutual interest;
    • Joint Research Initiatives: projects aiming at bridging a knowledge gap through a close collaboration between Academia and AXA;
    • Advocacy: regular interaction with “entities” to raise awareness on the potential for innovation through science in the organization.
    • Communication: develop general communications assets to strengthen brand while creating awareness of scientific findings funded by the organization.
Transversal
  • Be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with relevant stakeholders within the organization and especially within the Public Affairs team
  • Manage and curate our knowledge sharing and management tools for efficient and effective use in projects
  • Work closely and coordinate with the communication team and other Research Partners.
  • Support Head of the Fund and other colleagues with ad-hoc projects and support the continual improvement of external and internal processes.

Background
  • Masters degree or equivalent preferably IEP, Public Affairs or equivalent.
  • Successful professional experience (5-7 years) in an organization, preferably with knowledge of the environmental field or within a philanthropic organization.
  • Experience in transversal project management.
  • Excellent knowledge of PPT/Excel.
  • Business knowledge of French and English. Additional languages a plus.
