Insurance is a unique product – at the time that we sell a policy we do not know how much it will cost us.  We will only find this out later and it depends on the claims, if any, made by the customer. Wherever there is uncertainty, there is room for statistics. We build predictive models based on the past data to anticipate the future claims of our customers. The model output serves as a basis for setting an individual price for each customer – in the end everyone pays a fair share that reflects his own risk.

The better price segmentation, the more competitive advantage we have over other insurance companies. Therefore we continuously strive for excellence in predictive modeling. We share findings and best practices among all 9 countries of AXA Global Direct. Currently we are strengthening the team in South Korea as this market is about to be deregulated, which motivates us to accelerate in pricing sophistication even more.

Before you join the pricing team in your home country (Seoul, South Korea), we would provide you a comprehensive training on the job in Paris. You would have the chance to work for 2-3 months in the global pricing team based in France (Paris area, Suresnes near La Defense) on various pricing topics. After successful training phase, you would relocate to Seoul and work in the local pricing team.
Your main tasks in the pricing team would include:
  • Building models to predict future frequency and severity of claims (generalized linear models)
  • Building models to predict demand and price elasticity of the clients (logistic regression models)
  • Making segmentation analysis (decision trees)
  • Monitoring of sales and profitability of the portfolio

Requirements for this position:
  • Degree in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Actuarial Science or a similar field
  • Good understanding of probability theory (e.g. properties of Normal, Poisson, Gamma distributions)
  • Ability to apply various statistical methods in practice (e.g. linear regression, logistic regression, decision trees etc.)
  • Programming in R, SAS and Python
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and effective manner to a broad range of audiences
  • Fluency in English and Korean
