Asset management
"The world faces serious challenges, ranging from climate change to social inequality. And the nature and scale of these challenges are such that they will not be successfully addressed without all parts of society playing a full role. We know that the capital markets have historically been the engine for much human progress. Already a key player in the global fund management world, AXA IM aims to win the preference of all its stakeholders. So our responsibility to them is clear: to also be a leader in responsible investment."
Dominique Carrel-Billard, CEO, AXA Investment Managers
Asset management, a responsible development tool
Insurance companies collect and manage insurance premiums for a large number of clients. As such, they have become major institutional investors. AXA has built up a strong asset management expertise, which is now available to many clients outside of the Group's actual insurance companies.
AXA's commitments to its clients have a primarily long-term focus, notably through life insurance, savings and pensions. They therefore require it to achieve strong financial and non-financial performance levels on its assets, guaranteeing its sustainable performance.
In this way, asset management represents a dynamic and essential axis for the Group's sustainable development strategy. This involves reconciling the need for performance on this activity with an investment policy factoring in sustainable development issues. The appropriate use of the financial resources available to the Group is then actively leveraged to encourage stakeholders outside AXA to take these issues into consideration. This lies at the heart of the Group's responsible investment policy.
This policy covers various aspects of the investment business, including the integration of social, environmental or governance criteria into financial research and analysis, communication between the companies being invested in and the Group as a shareholder, the environmental management of its substantial real estate investments, the provision of microfinance solutions for the underprivileged, and the factoring in, when appropriate, of certain ethical considerations into the Group's investments.
Through its wide-ranging vision, responsible investment makes it possible to set in motion and maintain the "virtuous circle" for financial, social and environmental performance over the long term.
