On January 31, the AXA Award for Corporate Sustainability was presented to the company with the best corporate social responsibility practices, notably in terms of risk prevention.
The AXA Award for Corporate Sustainability is one of the eight 2007 European Business Awards given to the best-performing European companies in terms of growth and innovation.
Sponsoring such an award enables AXA to promote best practices for social responsibility linked to its business and its strategy, while focusing the selection on risk prevention.
This award represents an opportunity for AXA to:
- Show how its business, Financial Protection, fits in with its role as a global corporate citizen through risk prevention
- Promote businesses that are committed to sustainable development
Being responsible above all involves doing our business in such a way that we are able to insure our clients' risks on a sustainable basis. It also involves being a global corporate citizen, analyzing the expectations of its clients and factoring in the global impacts of their behaviors.
The awards ceremony took place on January 31 in Brussels in the presence of all the finalists (10 for each award) as well as journalists and the corporate sponsors, with the firms shortlisted for the AXA Award for Corporate Sustainability including a number of big names: ABN Amro, Akzo Nobel NV, Conergy AG, Diageo Ireland, Henkel KGaA, Hewlett-Packard GmbH, Kingfisher Plc, Shepherd Neame, Sodexho Alliance and Volvo Car Corporation.
It was finally to Hewlett-Packard GmbH that Claude Brunet, Claude Brunet, member of the Management Board, in charge of Transversal Operations and Projects, Human Resources, Brand and Communications, presented the AXA Award. Selected by a panel of judges made up of one academic, one journalist, one business leader and Catherine Boiteux-Pelletier, the AXA Group's head of sustainable development, Hewlett-Packard GmbH was rewarded for its risk prevention policy, its vigilance on environmental issues, its health-related actions for its clients, its responsibility in dealings with suppliers, and its 50 year-long commitment to being a socially responsible business.
The Group's participation in this leading European award reflects its commitment and follows on from AXA UK's support for the National Business Awards, already launched in the UK with strong media coverage.
